Kelly Ripa couldn’t hold back her tears during a live TV show after her husband, Mark Consuelos, shared sad news with the audience. The couple, known for their strong love and warm presence on screen, faced a personal and emotional moment that touched everyone watching.
During the episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple opened up about a painful loss. Fans and coworkers felt the weight of their emotions as Ripa and Consuelos spoke about their grief.
Kelly Ripa looked very upset as she shared the sad news with viewers. She and Consuelos first met in 1995 on the set of All My Children, where Ripa played Hayley Vaughan. They married a year later in May 1996 and now have three children: Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21.
On Wednesday, February 5, Consuelos explained that the past day had been very hard for their family. He shared heartbreaking news—their beloved 17-year-old dog, Chewie, had passed away.
“We had to say goodbye to Chewie,” he told the audience. He explained that their aging pet’s health had been getting worse. “Chewie stopped eating for days and had been eating less for weeks. She was very weak and had trouble moving,” he said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Ripa, filled with sadness, stayed quiet as Consuelos talked about how much Chewie meant to them. But when he recalled adopting Chewie and watching her grow up with their kids, Ripa couldn’t stop her tears.
Even though she was crying, Ripa said they were still grateful. She admitted feeling guilty for being so sad, saying, “There are bigger problems in the world.” Still, she found small moments of happiness, smiling as she remembered how friends, neighbors, and even their mail carrier said goodbye to Chewie.
As emotions filled the studio, Consuelos ended the segment with comforting words. He looked at his wife and crew and said, “We’ll get through this together.”
